How to Build a Geocache!

If you’re not already Geocaching in your neighbourhood or abroad, maybe it’s time you get started! What is Geocaching, you ask? If you need a quick refresher, check out our post called: Discover Geocaching Fun for Kids. But if you’ve already hit the dusty paths and backwoods in search of Geocaching treasures, then you’ll appreciate this equally fun activity – Building a Geocache!

Here’s a great video from DadLabs that explains some of the basics about Geocaching, how to find a Geocache, and what you can expect to see once you’ve found a Geocache:

Let’s build our own Geocache! Here some of the basics of what you’ll need:

• a waterproof container;
• a small spiral logbook;
• about 10 items for trading to get the geocache.

The contents don’t need to be expensive or elaborate.  Buy some stuff at your local dollar store or make your own.  It’s not the loot that makes it fun…it’s getting there! Think of the contents inside your geocache as a reward for someone who finds it.

Here are some of the best resources for building and hiding your geocaches:

So now that you know how to build a geocache for your next outdoor activity, the only question left is: What’s in your geocache?
